MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) --The St. Scholastica women's hockey team tied Concordia University (Wis.) 1-1 on Saturday to clinch a spot in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs.
All Tied Up After First
The only goals of the game came within the first period, with CSS scoring first on a Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) power-play goal, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. Katie Josephson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) was credited with the assist. Concordia quickly responded with Ellie Woodman scoring 47 after the Saints' goal, assisted by Brandi Mueller, to make it 1-1.
Even the Rest of the Way
After the first period, the shots were 20-19 in favor of St. Scholastica. The Falcons, needing two points, took a late timeout with five seconds left on the clock in order to pull goalie Christina Pattengale, but they were unable to get a win as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Goaltending/Shots on Goal
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) stopped 31 shots, while the Falcons' Christina Pattengale saved 26. Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and Katie Josephson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) led the Saints in shots on goal with five each.
