Women's Hockey Shuts Out Concordia

Notables:
-Saints jump ahead of the Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot
-CSS killed four Concordia power plays

-Hartfiel's first shutout of the season after coming off last weekend's 108 save performance

MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated Concordia University (Wis.) on Friday night 1-0, after scoring the only goal of the game halfway through the first period.

First Period
The Saints put the first point on the board 12 minutes into the game when Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) shot one past the Falcons' goaltender on a power play, assisted by Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)). This gave the Saints a 1-0 lead, a score that would not change for the rest of the game.

Scoreless Second and Third
The second and third periods saw no scoring from either team. St. Scholastica outshot Concordia 13-to-4 in the second period, but was unable to find the back of the net. In the third period, the Falcons stepped up their offensive game and hit 12 shots on goal to the Saints' five. Despite two power plays in the period, and a minute and a half of 6-on-5 play after pulling goaltender Christina Pattengale, Concordia was unable to capitalize on the opportunities, giving the Saints the 1-0 victory.

Goaltending
After a huge series for goaltender Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) last weekend, she stepped up for CSS once again and managed to shut out the Falcons with 25 saves, her first shutout of the season.

Up Next
The Saints take on the Falcons once more on Saturday for the second game of the series. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
