PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Hosts Rival UWS Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will face Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Alumni Day Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium.

Last Action: The Saints defeated both the University of Minnesota Morris and Crown College last weekend in the first two of five straight home games to end the season … CSS defeated Morris on Friday night 92-84 behind a career-high 29 points by sophomore Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) … Stark drained eight 3-pointers on the night, the most by a Saint since the 2012-13 season … The win snapped a six-game losing streak to the Cougars … On Saturday, the Saints cruised to a 93-55 victory over Crown …  Andrew Laughlin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) had 19 points in 17 minutes of action … Marc Peterson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) connected on five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points … The 38-point margin of victory was the largest since the Saints defeated Crown by 40 during the 2008-09 season.
 
Alumni Day: The Saints will hold their annual Alumni Day on Saturday with the Alumni game scheduled for 11 a.m. in Reif with a small reception to follow.
 
Home Winning Streak: The Saints have won 11 straight home games dating back to last season, which is tied for the longest such streak in program streak … CSS, who is 8-0 at home this season, last won 11 straight games during the 2008-09 season when it captured the UMAC regular season and tournament championships.
 
Where They Stand: With three conference games left, the Saints are a half-game behind the University of Northwestern for the No. 1 spot … Minnesota Morris and North Central University are both two games behind the Saints in the loss column … UWS is tied in the loss column with Bethany Lutheran College for the fifth and final postseason spot … Following the UWS game Saturday, the Saints will play North Central and Northwestern on the final weekend of the regular season.
 
Hot or Cold: Seven times this season the Saints have scored at least 50 points in a half … On the other end, there have been two games this year where the Saints have failed to score 20 points in a half … In the last matchup against UWS, the Saints almost did both, scoring only 18 points in the first half and recording 49 points in the second half.
