However, St. Scholastica got back in the contest quickly with an 11-2 run. Newman cut the lead to one with under five minutes to go. The Spartans again lengthened their lead by ending the first half on an 11-0 run as St. Scholastica did not make a field goal in the final five minutes of the half. Dubuque led at halftime 46-34.

After Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) opened the second half with a layup, the teams traded 8-0 runs and the Saints trailed by 10 with 16 minutes to go. The Spartans followed with a 10-0 with eight straight points coming from Jalen Jackson to give Dubuque a 64-44 lead with 14 minutes left.

CSS would not get any closer than 15 points the rest of the way as the margin got as high as 26. Dubuque would end up winning by a final tally of 85-66.
