PREVIEW: Women's Basketball has Final UMAC Games of 2016

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team will be in southern Minnesota this weekend for a pair of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games against Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College.

Last Action: The Saints swept both Finlandia University (Mich.) and Northland College last weekend … In both games, St. Scholastica trailed entering the fourth quarter … The Saints shot 70 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter in Friday's 67-58 win over Finlandia … Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and Kayla Swanson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) each led the Saints with 13 points … CSS trailed by eight with five minutes to go against Northland on Saturday only to finish the game on a 15-3 run to win 56-52 … Swanson and Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) combined for 45 of the team's 56 points.
 
UMAC POW: Senior Kayla Swanson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) was named the UMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday … Swanson averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists last weekend … In Saturday's come-from-behind win over Northland College, Swanson scored nine of her career-high 23 points in the fourth quarter … Five of those points came in the final 20 seconds, including a game-winning three-point-play … Swanson joins Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) as UMAC Player of the Week recipients this season.
 
Watch Out for Walther: Sophomore guard Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) has scored in double-figures in eight straight games and recorded a season-high 22 points in Saturday's win over Northland … Walther ranks second in the conference with 20 made 3-point field goals and is making 31 percent of her 3-point attempts.
 
Owning the Glass: St. Scholastica has out-rebounded its opponents in each of the last five games, including each of the last three contests … Point guard Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) has grabbed at least seven rebounds on each of the last four games.
