SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) - At the Wessman Arena, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team fought hard in a non-conference game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior to win 3-0 Saturday afternoon, scoring a goal each period.

The Action
With eight minutes remaining in the first period, Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS), with the assist from Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.), scored the first goal of the game during a power play opportunity. Hanowski's fifth goal of the season would put the Saints up 1-0, which would be the score going into the second period. Both teams were evenly matched this period, as CSS had 10 shots on goal and UWS had 11.

In the second period, a faceoff originally won by UWS was turned over to the Saints, allowing CSS to score. Lalikova and Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) assisted to Giorgia Battisti (Bolzano, Italy/Rice Memorial HS (Vermont)) six minutes into the period, scoring St. Scholastica's second goal of the game.

A minute into the third period, CSS was given another power-play opportunity. Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) would use this opportunity to her advantage, and three seconds into the power-play, she scored with help from Hanowski. With the score 3-0, the Yellowjackets fought to get a goal, outshooting the Saints 10-4. They, however, would not be able to score, making the final score 3-0 in St. Scholastica's favor.

Top Performers
St. Scholastica Sawyer had four of the Saints' 18 shots on goal. Hanowski shot three shots on goal, all in the first period.

In her fourth game, freshman Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)), stopped all 29 shots she faced for her first career shutout.
