DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com)- On Saturday, the No. 10 St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored in every period, but allowed three second period goals to Lake Forest College (Ill.) as the Foresters took the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) matchup 4-3 for the second straight day at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The Action
Two minutes into the game,
Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)), assisted by
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and
Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), got the Saints on the board 1-0 for an early lead. CSS were able to kill off one power play, but allowed the Foresters to score on the second one to tie up the game. The score would be 1-1 going into the second period.
A Forester would get a penalty 27 seconds into the second period, which gave
Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and
Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) the chance to assist 12 seconds later to
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS). This power play goal would put the Saints in the lead 2-1, but the lead wouldn't last long. LFC would score three more goals this period, one off of a powerplay, in the span of 11 minutes to put the Foresters up 4-2 to start out the third period.
St. Scholastica fought hard to retake the lead from the Foresters. The first attempt for the power grab would be in the final minute and the goalie pulled, a the second goal of the game from Stegora, with the assists coming from Hanowski and
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), to make it 4-3. The Saints would get one final surge, but it wasn't enough as Lake Forest prevailed 4-3.
Notable Performances
CSS has 25 shots on goal this game. M. Johnson had six of these shots;
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had four. St. Scholastica goaltender
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) saved 22 out of the 26 shots she faced. Jacqueline Audet had 22 saves to earn the win for the Foresters.

For the first time this season, the Saints (2-2, 1-1 NCHA) will be on the road, traveling to De Pere, Wisconsin to face St. Norbert College next weekend. Friday's action will be a non-confernece contest, beginning at 7 p.m.
