DE PERE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored two goals in the final 5:43 to rally past St. Norbert College (Wis.) 2-1 on Friday in a non-conference game featuring two Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) squads.
 
Everything in the Third
The first two periods went scoreless with the Saints out-shooting the Green Knights 15-9 entering the third period.
 
In the third, St. Norbert struck first on a Kylie Gazzolo power-play goal less than four minutes into the period. It remained 1-0 until St. Scholastica went on the power-play and was able to tie it up with 5:43 remaining on a Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) tally, her first of the season. Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) was credited the assist.
 
Then with 1:38 remaining in regulation, Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) found the back of the net to give the Saints the lead at 2-1. Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) had the assists. The Saints held on from there for the 2-1 victory.
 
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) made her first collegiate start for the Saints and made 20 stops, including 11 in the third period to earn first career win. Leigh Grall had 17 saves in the loss for the Green Knights.
 
Up Next
The Saints (3-2-0) and Green Knights (0-4-0) will face-off again tomorrow at the Resch Olympic Pavilion, but this time conference points will be on the line. Action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
