DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The No. 10 St. Scholastica women's hockey team dropped a close 4-3 battle against Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Friday night, with the game winning shot for LFC coming in the last 30 seconds of the game.

Early Lead for CSS
The Saints, coming off a 2-0 start to the season, got the first point on the board against the Foresters after 12 minutes of the first period had passed. The goal came during a CSS power play thanks to Anja Kadijevic (Zagreb, Croatia/General HS (Lindenwood)), assisted by Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS). The Foresters answered three minutes later with a power play goal of their own, tying the score at 1-1 with five minutes left until the first intermission.

Fighting Back
Two minutes into the second period, the game saw its first lead change when the Foresters' Amy Budde put the puck past the goal line, making the score 2-1. CSS kept pushing and its hard work paid off when Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) evened the score eight minutes into the period with help from Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)). The 2-2 score wouldn't change for the rest of the period, despite a power play by each team.

Problematic Third
The third period saw three goals, all coming after the halfway point. Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) collected the first one, her second of the game and third of the season, assisted by Tessa Lowry (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS), with seven minutes left in the period to put the Saints on top 3-2. LFC managed to tie it up with three and half minutes left on the clock on a Maddie Davis goal. As time expired, the game that looked as though it was about to head into OT was ended when the Foresters beat the defense and put a goal in the net to tip the lead in their favor with only 30 seconds left in the game. The Saints won the final faceoff but were unable to get a shot off in the last few seconds, giving the game its final score of 4-3.

Notable Performances
Sawyer led the offense with two goals for the Saints. Hanowski had two shots on goal during the game with two assists. Senior captain and goalie Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 26 saves on the night. The Foresters had four different players score, with goals coming from Maddie Davis, Amy Budde, Amanda Brunges, and Julia Unterseher. Jacque Rogers had 13 saves during the game.
