The Race
Hovland ran with much of the pack for most of the race. She was in the 90s early in the race, but moved her way through the field and was 47th at the midway point.

She got as high as the top 25 near the final portion of the race and finished with a large group of runners. When the dust cleared, she crossed in 33rd place with a personal-best time of 21:15. The top 35 finishers earn All-America laurels. Hovland was one of four runners to finish as an All-American after being lower than 40th at the halfway point.

The 21:15 time was 45 seconds better than her time at last year's championship and only four seconds off Chelsea Johnson's national championship time for the fastest 6km time at a NCAA National Championship in program history.

Third All-American in Program History
Hovland becomes the third All-American in program history. Chelsea Johnson was a two-time All-American in 2012 and 2013 and Susan Immer was the first in 1990. The 33rd place finish is the fourth-best at a national championship in program history.
