ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team dropped a 7-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) road game to No. 4 Adrian College (Mich.) on Friday night.
The Bulldogs gained an early lead during the game on a Kaylyn Schroka power play goal after two and a half minutes of play had passed in the first period. Another 10 minutes went by before Adrian took advantage of another power play opportunity, this time credited to Sarah Shureb. The score stayed at 2-0 headed into the first intermission.
During the second period the Saints made a push for the lead, but the Bulldogs pushed harder. Adrian scored first during the period, another Schroka goal, after less than two minutes into the period. 15 seconds later, Shureb hit her second goal of the game to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 early in the second. The Saints got themselves on the board after an interference call on Adrian put them on power play. Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) used the player advantage to score her sixth goal of the season, making the score 4-1.
Stegora collected her second goal of the game two minutes later, this time assisted by Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS). This goal put the lead to within two goals, but the Bulldogs were determined to expand the deficit. 30 seconds after Stegora's goal, Adrian's Brooke Lupi found the back of the net on a short-handed goal to make the score 5-2. The next seven minutes saw a lull in the scoring, then for the sixth goal of the period, Lupi put a second goal over the goal line. At the second intermission, the score was 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The third period only saw one goal, scored by Adrian's Kristin Lewicki, giving the game its final score of 7-2.
