DE PERE, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team won its second consecutive game against St. Norbert College (Wis.) on Saturday afternoon, scoring in every period to earn a 3-2 victory in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.
Consistent Saints Play
With four minutes left in the first period, after failing to take advantage of three power play opportunities, the Green Knights scored to put the first tally on the board. A St. Norbert penalty put the Saints on the power play with just over two minutes left in the period. Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) took advantage with 30 seconds left until the first intermission when she put one through the pipes, assisted by Giorgia Battisti (Bolzano, Italy/Rice Memorial HS (Vermont)), to tie the score at one.
The second period started out with another successful power play for CSS, after less than two minutes of play. Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)), assisted by Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) and Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS), collected credit for the second power play goal of the game that put CSS in the lead 2-1. The Saints defense stepped it up during the rest of the period and kept the Green Knights from scoring, which would later prove to be the deciding factor in the game's outcome.
In the final period, the Green Knights scored early to tie the game at 2-2 on a power play. The game was neck and neck, and looked to be headed towards overtime, but an unassisted Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) goal put the Saints back into the lead with less than five minutes left in regulation. The Saints held on, despite SNC pulling its goalie with two minutes left, and the game ended with a score of 3-2.
