DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team continued its dominance within the conference by defeating Crown College Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-1 at Saints Field.
After two intense matches the weekend before, the Saints were able to relax a little bit during Saturday's UMAC showdown against Crown as they handled them rather easily. The Storm were struggling heading into the match, and it showed during the first half.
Just eight minutes in and the Saints were on the scoreboard, thanks in part to
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS)'s third goal of the season off a
Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) assist. One minute later
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ) notched her fourth goal of the season to help the Saints take a 2-0 lead over Crown.
The scoring seized for about nine minutes until St. Scholastica's
Taylor Rozmark (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS ) beat the keeper with a roller to the left side of the net to give the Saints a 3-0 edge late in the 17th minute. The goal was assisted by
Kirsten Olsen (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS ), which marked her first point on the season.
That would do it for scoring in the first half, as the Saints were able to unload a barrage of shots (32), but only found the back of the net just three times. Crown College's Emily Kirby had her work cut out for her in the first, but managed to record 19 saves while only letting three slip by.
The second half was less-dominated by CSS, who were limited to just 15 total shots in the period after rattling off 32 in the first. Eight would be considered shots on goal, with Kirby holding down the fort and denying all eight shots to amount to an outstanding 27 saves on the day. Crown in fact got one of their own to squeak by the goalkeeper to avoid being shutout after Anna Kragt was able to capitalize on a one-on-one opportunity in the 72nd minute.
It was a combined win for CSS as far as between the posts go, as
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth) ) played through a scoreless first half for CSS without having to face a shot.
Chiara DeLuca (Twig, Minn./Proctor HS) came out for the second half and faced two shots, stopping one and allowing the other for a goal.
The win puts the Saints at .500 (6-6-2) as far as the overall record is concerned and they are still undefeated din UMAC play, extending that record to 5-0-1. With the loss, Crown's struggles continue as they drop to 0-11-1 (0-6-0 UMAC).
