Men's Hockey Outlasted by Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night, falling at the University of Wisconsin-Stout 3-2.
 
The Action
The Saints played a scoreless first period for the second straight night with the Blue Devils holding the edge in shots 10-8. Stout hit the pipe twice in the period.
 
The Blue Devils struck first in the second period when Riley Colvard scored on the power-play four minutes into the period. St. Scholastica's Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) hit the pipe shortly thereafter, but the score remained 1-0 until late in the period. With less than five seconds remaining before the second intermission Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) found the net to tie the game at 1-1. Max Mettler (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Minot-NAHL)) was credited with the assist.
 
The Saints out-shot the Blue Devils 20-11 in the final two periods, but Stout had the advantage in the score column. The Blue Devils regained the lead three minutes into the third period with an Adam Kresl goal.
 
CSS responded less than three minutes later as Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) scored on the power-play for his second goal in as many nights to make it 2-2 with 14 minutes to go. Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) had the assist.
 
It stayed 2-2 until Justin Moody gave the Blue Devils the lead again with less than five minutes remaining to make it 3-2. The Saints put three shots on net in the final five minutes, but could not find the equalizer as Stout prevailed 3-2.
 
Goaltending
Peter Megariotis (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS (Adrian)) made 16 saves in the loss for St. Scholastica. Spencer Viele registered 26 saves in the win for the Blue Devils.
 
Up Next
The Saints (1-1-0) will now have a 10-day break as they will next be in action on Tuesday, November 8 for their home opener against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
