NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team played two extra periods Saturday afternoon when it traveled to Knight Field to take on Martin Luther College. Despite outshooting the Knights by a total of 27-13, the Saints were unable to find the back of the net during the match; which resulted in a 0-0 tie for this particular UMAC matchup.

CSS had a strong opening half, as they came out and put four shots-on-goal to that of MLC's zero. The four shots were all saved by Martin Luther's Julia Barthels, however, which kept the first half scoreless despite the Martin Luther offense seeming to falter.

The second half was much like the first as again St. Scholastica outshot Martin Luther in terms of shots-on-goal, this time by a score of 6-3. Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth) ) replicated the play of Barthels, stopping every shot that came her way and remaining solid through the two overtime periods.

The two overtimes were heavily dominated by the Saints in terms of ball possession and shots taken. In fact, CSS managed to get five shots off in in the first ten-minute overtime period. Both Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS)'s and Kirsten Olsen (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS )'s shots were blocked, keeping the match scoreless.

The second overtime was a bit closer, as the Saints only outshot Martin Luther 3-1. The only shot-on-goal came from Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS ) on a header with seven minutes remaining in the match. Barthels made the save, which would be the last save on the scoreless day at Knight Field.

Zeis led the way for CSS in terms of shots and shots-on-goal, as she recorded seven and three, respectively. Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ) and Olsen both sent four shots of their own, with each having one find its way to the keeper. Rudolph wasn't too busy, but did her job when needed as she recorded three saves in the shutout.
