ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team was defeated by No. 19 University of Northwestern in three sets on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
The Action
Reigning UMAC Player of the Year, Lindsey Peterson carried the Eagles on Saturday as she recorded 22 of Northwestern's 47 kills in the match.
CSS got off to a great start in the opening set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead thanks to a pair of blocks. The Saints retained the lead until Peterson recorded three straight kills to give the Eagles a 13-12 advantage. After an
Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) kill tied the set at 20-20, Northwestern got the next four points thanks to three consecutive hitting errors by the Saints. Northwestern took the set 25-22.
The Eagles took control of the second set right from the start, taking an 11-2 lead. St. Scholastica would get within five, but the Eagles regained control and won the second set 25-12.
The Saints scored the first point of the third set, but that was their only lead in the set. Northwestern took control with a 7-0 run midway through to sweep the Saints 25-18.
Top Performers
Belden led the Saints with seven kills, while
Emily Bounds (Hill City, Minn./Hill City HS) added six kills and
Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) five kills. Houser also had one block solo and five block assists in the match.
Emily Kessler (Grand Rapids, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) registered 13 assists and
Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 10 assists.
Alex Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) had 12 digs.
Lindsey Peterson had 22 kills and Freya Hanson was next with eight kills for the Eagles
