DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team dropped a close 3-2 battle against Hamline University on Sunday, despite beating the Hamline keeper on two of five shots on goal.
The Action
In the first half, it was a back and forth battle between the two teams. CSS had good aim, but both of its shots on goal in the half were saved. The Pipers got on the scoreboard first with a Malya Hirschkowitz goal, assisted by Arendje Louter in the 33rd minute. Not long after that, a nice passing sequence by Hamline got the ball to Jenna Sampson, who found the far post to put the Pipers up 2-0. Assists on the goal went to Kaley Roberts and Louter.Â
The second half saw more success for CSS that began with an unassisted goal by Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ), her third of the season at 56:50. The Pipers regained their two score lead though, when Siri Parker beat the Saints' keeper for a goal, assisted by Hirshkowitz. Just over one minute after that, the Saints' Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS ) found the back of the net on a successful penalty kick, bringing the lead back to one with just over 15 minutes left in the game. It would not be enough for the Saints though, and time would expire, leaving the score at 3-2.
Notable Performances
CSS keeper Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth) ) had seven saves on the day. Dixon led the offense, finding success on one of her two shots on goal.
