Women's Soccer Suffers Setback at Bethany

Notables
-First time the Saints have lost/tied multiple league games in a season since 2003
-Rouillard has recorded at least one point in four of the last five games

MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Bethany Lutheran College defeated the St. Scholastica women's soccer team for the first time in 23 tries on Saturday, downing the Saints 2-1 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup.

Saints Fall Behind
CSS controlled much of the play early on, not allowing a single Viking shot in the first 28 minutes of the contest. However, Bethany Lutheran got on the board with less than four minutes to go in the first half on a Rachel Bitter header to make the halftime score 1-0 Vikings.

The Vikings kept the pressure on at the start of the second half and were rewarded with a Nicole Moldstad goal in the 57th minute to extend the margin to 2-0.

CSS Tried to Rally
After falling behind by two, the Saints were in desperation mode with back-to-back shots on BLC goalkeeper Averi Cash. CSS finally broke through in the 84th minute when Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) cut the margin to 2-1. Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) had the assist.

However, it wasn't enough as another late shot by Olson was stopped by Cash to give the Vikings a 2-1 victory over the Saints.

UMAC Tournament Picture
With the loss, paired with a Northland College win today, the Saints trail the LumberJills by three points with only one league game remaining for both teams. Bethany Lutheran is also only three points back of the Saints, but has two league games left, including a big game at Northland next Saturday.

Up Next
The Saints (7-7-2, 5-1-1 UMAC) will be at Macalester College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
