Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) scored a career-high 25 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, to lead the St. Scholastica women's basketball team past the University of Minnesota Morris 78-69 on Sunday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
Brennan Takes Over the Fourth QuarterAfter the first half featured seven ties and eight lead changes, Minnesota Morris held a 38-37 lead at halftime. The tight play continued in the third quarter as there would be 10 lead changes alone in the quarter and Morris led 56-54 after 30 minutes of play
Brennan opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer to put the Saints back up by one. After a Morris bucket,
Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) drained a 3-pointer to put the Saints up two. Brennan then scored seven straight points to put the Saints up eight.
With the lead down to three with 2:20 to play, the Cougars did not make another field goal the rest of the game, while Brennan scored seven of the team's final eight points, including a key 3-point play with minute to go to give St. Scholastica the 78-69 victory.
