HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team out-scored Finlandia University (Mich.) 29-7 in the third quarter en route to a 78-50 victory on Friday.
 
First and Third Quarter Dominance
In the first quarter, the Saints shot 59 percent from the floor and led by as much as nine before leading 24-17 at the end of quarter. Emelia Miner (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) had seven points in the first 10 minutes of action, going 3-for-3 from the field.
 
After the Saints led 40-30 at halftime, CSS came out of the locker room and put the game away by closing the third quarter on a 17-0 run to take a 69-37 lead at the end of three quarters.
 
St. Scholastica shot 71 percent (10-of-14) in the quarter with Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) going 3-for-3 on 3-point attempts. Finlandia, on the other hand, was 2-for-18 from the field and was out-scored 21-3 in bench points.
 
Finlandia had the scoring edge in the fourth quarter, but the story was already written as the Saints cruised to a 78-50 victory.

Minor and Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) each finished with 10 points. Holly Peterson (Rochester, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) and Hamm added nine points and Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) had eight points. Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) had 10 rebounds, while Miner and Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) each had five assists.
 
Top Performances for Finlandia
Julia Daavettila had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Brooke Turin recorded a game-high 17 points.
