Women's Hockey Falls in Overtime

Notables
-CSS had five different players record points in this matchup
-The Saints have now lost six in a row after starting the season 5-4

DE PERE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell to St. Norbert College in overtime by a final score of 3-2 Friday night in Green Bay.

First Period
The first period almost passed without a single goal by both teams.

It was not until there was only 16 seconds left in the period that St. Norbert struck first in the game taking a 1-0 lead when Kylie Gazzolo was able to send the puck past Saints Goaltender Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS).

Second Period
CSS struggled to find the net early in the second period with shot after shot being sent away.

It was not until there was 8:09 left in the period that the Saints finally managed to get a shot through to tie the game at 1-1. Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) got credit for the goal on helpers coming from Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Katie Josephson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS).

That proved to be the only scoring of the period for either team as the buzzer sounded signaling the second intermission as CSS and St. Norbert played to a 1-1 tie going into the third period.

Third Period
St. Norbert came out firing in the third period, and it did not take long for them to retake the lead. Just 41 seconds into the period, Hartfiel again got beat as the puck slid into the net making the score 2-1 in favor of St. Norbert.

CSS would fight and battle for scoring chances as it seemed they were on the cusp of tying the game. It was not until the 11:24 mark in the period that the Saints would tie the game at two goals apiece with Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) notching the game tying goal with the assist going to Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.).

The rest of the third period would play out to a 2-2 tie, and extra hockey would be required to determine the winner.

Overtime
Unfortunately for CSS, St. Norbert would score in the first minute of overtime when Jillian Kosteck buried home the game winner.

Hartfiel would finish the game with 35 saves on 38 shots, while CSS would manage just 18 total shots on St. Norbert goaltender Leigh Grall.

Up Next
CSS (5-10, 4-5 NCHA) will take on St Norbert again tomorrow at 2 p.m. to conclude the weekend doubleheader.
