Notables-CSS improves to 34-0 all-time vs. Crown-Both teams combined to go 7-for-31 on 3-point attempts-Walther led the Saints in scoring for the third straight game

csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team out-scored Crown College 19-8 in the second period and that proved to be the difference in a 62-50 victory on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
Key Second Quarter RunThe Saints led for most of the first quarter until the Storm closed action with five straight points to take a 13-12 lead at the conclusion of the quarter. 10 of the 13 Crown points came from its bench.
Crown extended the lead to 17-12 early in the second quarter forcing the Saints to call a timeout. CSS came out of the stoppage with a 12-0 run to take a 24-17 lead. The Saints finished the half on another 7-2 spurt to take a 31-21 halftime lead.
Second HalfThe Saints and Storm played an even third quarter with the margin staying between 10 and 14 points throughout. In the fourth quarter the lead grew to 15 before Crown went on a 9-1 run to cut it to seven with under five minutes to play.
That is as close as the Storm would get as the Saints drained four free throws to extend their lead back to double digits. The Saints went on to win 62-50.
Team StatsThe Saints shot 38 percent from the floor for the game, while the Storm were 33 percent. Both teams struggled from the free throw line with the Saints at 55 percent (16-of-29) and the Strom at 47 percent (9-of-19). St. Scholastica out-scored Crown 28-18 in the paint.
Top Performances for CSSMichala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) had a game-high 15 points to lead the Saints for the third straight game.
Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) had a double-double for the second straight game with 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) chipped in 14 points.
Top Performances for CrownDesiree Davis had 13 points off the bench to lead the Storm. She also led the team with eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Up NextThe Saints (4-8, 2-2 UMAC) will face the University of Minnesota Morris tomorrow afternoon in Morris with tip time scheduled for 5 p.m.
