csssaints.com) – No. 5 Lake Forest College (Ill.) needed a goal with 4:20 remaining to defeat the St. Scholastica women's hockey team on Friday night in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The ActionThe Foresters had a slight edge in shots in the first period and were able to breakthrough on a Michelle Greeneway goal with less four minutes remaining in the period.
The ice then started to tilt in the Saints' favor in the second period as they out-shot Lake Forest 7-3 in the period. All three shots on goal came on Forester power-plays.
The Saints evened it up at 1-1 four minutes into the third period on a
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) goal.
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) had the assists.
It stayed 1-1 until a CSS turnover in its defensive end led to another Greeneway goal with 4:20 remaining to make it 2-1 Lake Forest. The Saints would get a power-play late and pull the goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage, but could not tie it up as it fell 2-1.
GoaltendingLindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) made 19 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Allie Carter also had 19 saves in the victory for the Foresters.
