DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team suffered a tough defeat to Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday in its home opener at Saints Field, surrendering an own goal with 4:10 left in the second overtime that gave the Cobbers a 2-1 victory.

The Cobbers (1-1-0) controlled play in the first 45 minutes, keeping possession and outshooting the Saints 7-1 in the half. Concordia broke through in the 27th minute when Emily Wendorff beat the goalkeeper from the top of the box.

The Saints put the offensive pressure on early in the second half as Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) got the first shot on goal three minutes into the half. Five minutes later, Olson found Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), who headed in her second goal of the season to tie the contest at 1-1.

CSS had a couple of good chances in the final seven minutes of regulation, but could not find the back of the net as the game went to overtime.

After the first 10-minute overtime period went scoreless, Concordia's Paige McCullough had a great chance in the second OT, but missed the target just wide of the far post. Two minutes later, however, a loose ball right in front of the CSS goal, resulted in an own goal after an errant clearance found the net to give Concordia the 2-1 victory.

The ending was similar to the way the Saints were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament last season when Lake Forest College (Ill.) won on an own goal in the first overtime period.

Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) stopped three shots in the loss for the Saints, while Elizabeth Blitzen made three saves to earn the victory for the Cobbers.

Concordia had a 13-8 advantage in shots, including a slight 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Saints were also held without a corner kick, while the Cobbers had six.
