SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team scored two second half goals to slide past UMAC rival UW-Superior 2-0 on a slippery and wet Wednesday afternoon contest in Superior.
First HalfThe Saints led the way in the first half with eight shots to the Yellowjackets' four, but neither team was able to put anything in the net. The Saints were unable to convert off of four corner kicks, though St. Scholastica put the pressure on with four shots in the late 30
th and early 31
st minute. Both teams would head to the locker room empty-handed after 45 minutes of play.
Second HalfIn the second half, CSS would sneak one past the 'Jacket keeper as
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS ) followed her own corner kick rebound and put the Saints up 1-0 in the 65
th minute with her first collegiate goal. The Saints would later extend their lead as
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS ) put one in the back of the net to give St. Scholastica a 2-0 lead. CSS would ride out the rest of the game and head home soaked, but satisfied with a 2-0 victory to improve to 2-1-0 in conference play.
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) made three saves in the winning effort for the Saints to earn her 31st career shutout.
