DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team scored two late goals to sneak away with a victory over Northland College 3-2 in the UMAC regular season opener on Tuesday at Saints Field.

First Half
Northland got the scoring started in the 14th minute of the match when they put the ball past Saints goaltender Annie Michels (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s ) to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Saints would answer back in the 24th minute when Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) beat the NC goalie on a pass from Taylor Rozmark (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS ) for her first goal of the year.

That score would remain tied for the rest of the first half with no team managing a second goal as the halftime score was set at a 1-1 tie.

Second Half
Just 52 seconds into the second half, Northland would again take the lead when Kaiya Voldberg netted her fourth goal of the season for the LumberJills setting the score at 2-1 in favor of Northland.

That score would prove to hold on for the next 23 minutes of play with CSS trying desperately to score the game-tying goal. That goal eventually came in the form of a Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS ) unassisted goal at the 78:18 mark of the match to knot the score at 2-2.

The Saints would ride the wave of momentum for the remainder of the match culminating in Kate Burley (Nowthen, Minn./St. Francis HS )'s first goal of the season off a Keisha Lommel (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS ) flip-throw-in that gave CSS the lead with just five minutes to spare.

CSS would ride out the rest of the game and sneak away with a hard fought 3-2 victory to improve to 1-0 in conference play.

Michels ended up saving four shots in her first start of the season for CSS.
