OSHKOSH, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team bounced back from a winless tournament at the University of Northwestern last weekend with an undefeated one at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic after taking down Wisconsin Lutheran and St. Norbert by a score of 3-1 for both matches.

CSS 3, WLC 1
After taking down Marian and UW-River Falls on Friday, St. Scholastica came into the matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran with a 2-0 record in the tournament at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Warriors started strong after taking the first set against CSS 25-20.

The Saints made their case, however, by proving their strength in set two, winning 25-21.The third set proved to be the best, as the score went beyond 25 and went back and forth until CSS finally pulled away for a 28-26 win and went up 2-1 in the match.

After such a tough third set, the Saints seemed to take the momentum from the hard fought set into the fourth and closed out the Warriors 25-16.

Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the team in kills with 18, while Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) had 13 and Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) recorded 12. Alex Barsody had a team-high two aces, and Emily Kessler (Blackberry, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) led the Saints with 29 assists. MacKayla Menges led the Warriors with 17 kills.

CSS 3, St. Norbert 1
The Saints wrapped up the tournament against the St. Norbert Green Knights. CSS yet again took another win at UW-Oshkosh with the same score as the match before, 3-1.

This time, CSS was the team to start off on the right foot. They took the first set 25-21. The second set went about the same as the first with a final score of 25-20.

The third set was won by the Knights by a score of 25-17, which was the biggest gap differential between the teams. That is, until set number four game around. The Saints didn't want to go to a game five and put away the Green Knights 25-11 in set four to go 4-0 on the weekend.

The Saints were led yet again by Morrin with 13 kills. Belden recorded 12 of her own. Houser had six blocks in the contest, and Emily Kessler (Blackberry, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) recorded 24 assists. The Green Knights were led by Kalie Ferry, who stacked up 17 kills in the affair.

Up Next
After the successful weekend, the Saints improve to 6-4 on the season. CSS will play its next game at home on Tuesday, September 15 against UW-Eau Claire. The matchup will begin at 7 p.m.
