DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica volleyball team dropped its home opener Tuesday night at the Reif Gymnasium to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in three sets.

The Action
Both teams came into the match with a 6-4 record and the Saints were fresh off a four-match win streak after going undefeated at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic this past weekend.

With the first set ending in a close 25-22 decision, things still looked hopeful for St. Scholastica as they posted just one less kill than the Blugolds. However, after the first set UW-Eau Claire started to take control, never allowing CSS to take the lead in the final two sets.

The Blugolds ended the night with 42 kills and .218 hiiting percentage. After that first set, the Saints had hitting percentages of -.056 in the second set and .100 in the third set. Eau Claire won the final two sets by 25-15 scores.

Top CSS Performers
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) of CSS led the way in kills with 11, tying the Blugolds leader Kelly Riesgraf. It was an impressive night for Morrin as she also led the Saints in digs and attack percentage. Entering the night Morrin needed 12 kills to each 1,000 for her career, so she fell one short of that mark.

Other top performers for St. Scholastica include Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) who led the team with three blocks and Emily Kessler (Blackberry, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) who recorded 13 assists on the night.

Up Next
The Saints will look to bounce back against rivals Minnesota Morris and UW-Superior at the UMAC Crossover Tournament, taking place on Friday in St. Paul at the University of Northwestern.
