csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team picked up a pair of three-set wins on Friday night over Marian University (Wis.) and University of Wisconsin-River Falls at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.
CSS 3, Marian 0The Saints opened up against Marian and came away with a three-set sweep. CSS won by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-21.
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the Saints with 16 kills.
Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) had nine kills and
Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) recorded eight kills.
Emily Kessler (Blackberry, Minn./Greenway HS (Itasca CC)) had 35 assists and
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had 18 digs.
Alex Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) had three service aces to go along with 10 digs.
CSS 3, UW-River Falls 0For the second time in 11 days, the Saints defeated UW-River Falls, this time only needing three sets. CSS won by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-15.
Morrin once again led the Saints with 14 kills. Elvehjem had 11 kills. Belden and
Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) each registered nine kills. Kessler had 23 assists and
Emily Jansen (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) added 20 assists.
The Saints had an impressive .511 hitting percentage in the victory. It marks the first time the Saints have had a hitting percentage over .500 in a match since the 2001 season.
