DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team is looking to close out its regular season strong this weekend, especially after a dominating 16-1 win Friday night against Bethany Lutheran College at Wade Stadium.

The Saints started the game strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. The first inning was highlighted by Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) )'s two RBI triple to left center.

The second inning proved to be much of the same, with Wood keeping the Vikings scoreless and the Saints adding on four more runs. Two of those four runs were provided by Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) )'s triple to center field. There would be a bases loaded walk in the third scoring one more Saint, making it 8-0 heading into the fourth inning.

The fourth was the highlight of the night. Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) hit a two-run home run, scoring Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) and putting St. Scholastica up 10 runs.

Despite the score being 10-0, the Saints weren't done. Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) took a pitch to the hip when the bases were loading, making it 11-0 in the fifth. After the hit-by-pitch, Bethany Lutheran's pitcher threw a wild one that got away from the catcher, scoring another run. A Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) RBI fly-out capped the scoring in the fifth, making it a 13-0 Saints lead going into the sixth inning.

Wood kept the Vikings scoreless another inning, closing out the sixth very strongly. The Saints made it 16-0 off of a few errors from Bethany Lutheran's infield.

Wood couldn't keep the shutout in the seventh, however, with a bases loaded walk to make it 16-1. Wood would close out the game, not allowing another run to cross.

With the win, Wood moves to 8-0 on the season, keeping his perfect record alive. The loss was handed to Vikings' Cody Leitner, who falls to 1-5 on the year.

The Saints are now 18-1 in conference play, and play their last games of the regular season tomorrow at Wade Stadium against Bethany Lutheran. First game is slated for noon. It will be Senior Day for CSS and action can be heard live on Saints Sports Net.
