WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team finished the UMAC Crossover tournament with a day two sweep of its two opponents first defeating Bethany Lutheran College 11-3 in six innings then Crown College by a score of 5-0.

It was not until the fifth inning that the Saints would finally get on the board with a 10-run hammering of Bethany Lutheran pitching. The scoring got started when McGuiness hit a ground rule double to plate
Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) for the first Saints run of the game.
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) would follow up with a two RBI double of her own that scored McGuiness and
Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) to tie the game up at 3.
After two walks and a fielder's choice that scored another run,
Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) smacked a grand slam that launched CSS to an 8-3 lead.
The Saints would add two more runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to walk away with a late game victory over Bethany Lutheran 11-3.
McGuiness would end the day with five innings pitched while giving up three runs on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts. McCabe and Bremer each finished 2-for-4 with five combined RBIs and two runs scored.
CSS 5, Crown 0The Saints got on the scoreboard in the second inning taking a 1-0 lead when
Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) singled in McCabe for the RBI single.
McGuiness would then continue her day with a solo home run in the third inning which made the score 2-0 in favor of the Saints.
St. Scholastica would add three more runs in the fifth inning. First Bremer scored an unearned run on a
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) ground ball that was misplayed by the Crown shortstop to make the score 3-0, then
Marjaana Dailey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) capped off the scoring with an 2 RBI double to set the final score at CSS 5 Crown 0.
Mizera pitched a complete game shutout for the Saints throwing seven innings giving up six hits allowing one walk and striking out four. McGuiness, Warren, and Dailey each finished 2-for-4 to lead the Saints offensively.
CSS (11-10, 5-0 UMAC) will play host to Northwestern in a UMAC weekday doubleheader this Tuesday with the first pitch of game one set for 3 p.m. at Kenwood field in Duluth.
