DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team had its 21 game winning streak snapped on Sunday at Kenwood Field with a 13-0 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a non-conference matchup.

The Saints fell behind early in this game with the Blugolds taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a pair of RBI doubles from Deanna Gilane and Leah Wolff.

CSS looked to answer immediately after getting three consecutive singles with no outs from Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS), Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), and Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) but Schiro was thrown out at home trying to score from second on the play. Then with runners on first and second, St. Scholastica was unable to put the ball in play as the next two batters struck out swinging.

UWEC expanded their lead to 7-0 with a five-run second inning that included an Amanda Fischer solo home run. The Blugolds never stopped adding to their lead with a three-run third inning followed by Amanda Fischer's second solo home run of the game in the fourth inning. Kenzie Winning completed the run with a two-run blast over the center field wall in the fifth inning bringing the final score to 13-0.

Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) got the start for the Saints giving up six runs on 10 hits over 2.1 innings. Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) pitched the final 2.2 innings for St. Scholastica allowing three runs on three hits.

Lauren Blasczyk picked up her ninth win of the season for Eau Claire throwing three shutout innings and holding the Saints to just three hits. Zana Lorbetske finished the game for UWEC striking out five over two innings.

Amanda Fischer finished the game 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's and two home runs for the Blugolds. Deanna Gilane was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI's and Kenzie Winning added 4 RBI's on two hits for Eau Claire.

With the loss the Saints record falls to 27-11 overall, however, CSS remains a perfect 21-0 against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponents.

Up next St. Scholastica will take on Gustavus Adolphus College in a doubleheader in the Saints final games of the regular season on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
