St. Scholastica got things rolling early, as they knocked in 11 runs in the first inning. The first four runs came off of the bat of Marjaana Dailey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), who hit a grand slam to center field. The Saints weren't satisfied with just a 4-0 start. Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS), Carley Henning (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS), Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS), Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), and Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) all picked up RBIs during the first inning to make it an 11-0 Saints lead.

The Rams weren't any better in the second inning, putting up a goose egg for the second consecutive inning. The Saints piled in four more runs in the bottom half of the inning off of another grand slam, this time by Becca Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS).

The third inning was the final inning of scoring in the game, as Zwak was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the third. The fourth and fifth innings remained scoreless and the Saints walked out of Minneapolis with a 16-0 win and their seventh straight regular season UMAC championship.

Picking up the win was Mizera, who was helped by fellow pitcher Carly Safranski (Argyle, Minn./Stephen-Argyle Central HS) in their 5 inning no hitter. it was the second no hitter in seven days for the Saints as Mizera had a perfect game last Monday against Northwestern. Taking the loss for the Rams was Kylee Bommersbach.

CSS 12, Northwestern 3 (F/5)

After their commanding 16-0 victory over North Central, the St. Scholastica Saints traveled across the cities to take on the University of Northwestern in their second of two games this afternoon.

The momentum carried over from the North Central game. Not only did the Saints score a lot in the first inning again, but they started off their scoring the same way, with a home run. This time it was Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) who blasted one over the left field fence, making it 3-0 Saints.

The Saints put up another run in the third inning off of Warren's solo home run to center to make it 4-0, but the Eagles scored one of their own in the bottom half of the second inning.

St. Scholastica started to create space in the fourth inning, showing the Eagles why they are number one in the conference. The Saints scored four runs in the fourth due to an error from Northwestern's infield and a few nice hits by McGuiness and Dailey.

The Saints would close out the game with four more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by doubles from Schiro and Logergren. The Eagles tallied two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a final score of 12-3 (F/5).

The win went over to Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), who gave up 5 hits and two earned runs through five innings, while the loss went to the Eagles' Ann Lokke.

Up next for the Saints is a home doubleheader Wednesday at Kenwood Field against Northland College. The first game is slated to start at 3 p.m. and can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
