DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team won two dramatic games over Northwestern on Monday afternoon with a perfect game thrown in game one and a seven-run comeback in game two.

Game 1: CSS 8 UNW 0 (F/6)
The Saints exploded for three runs in the third inning, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth en route to an 8-0 victory over the Eagles.

Two of the three runs were scored off of errors by Northwestern with Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) getting the lone RBI in the inning off of a sharp single up the middle which scored Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS).

Marjaana Dailey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) put the Saints up 4-0 in the fifth inning with a solo home run, and the Saints added four more in the sixth inning with RBIs by Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS), and Logergren as they cruised to an 8-0 win in game one.

Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) pitched an absolute gem on the mound throwing the fifth perfect game in CSS history in the six inning victory. Besides the perfect game she also fanned eight batters in a row and totaled 10 on the day. Congrats Chrisi!

Game 2: CSS 8 UNW 7
CSS scored all of their runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings as they came all the way back from seven runs down to steal the second game 8-7.

Northwestern jumped on Saints pitching early in the game with two runs in the first inning, four in the second, and one in the top of the fourth to take a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.

The Saints would never say die, however, as they began chipping away at the lead first with a two run fourth inning highlighted by a Becca Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) RBI double that scored Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) to cut the lead to 7-2.

After an RBI single by Dailey in the fifth, and two consecutive RBI doubles by Logergren and Warren, the Saints had cut the deficit to just two runs at 7-5 with the bottom of the seventh to try and win or force extras.

The seventh inning was led off by a Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) pinch hit home run that gave instant momentum to the Saints as they saw themselves down by just one run with no outs in the seventh.

Bremer and Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS) would follow with singles of their own to put runners on first and third with no out for CSS. Logergren would score Bremer with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at seven all and just one out in the inning.

The stage was then set for a dramatic win when Warren would again come to the plate already 2-for-4 on the day. On the first pitch of the at bat she lined a single to right field scoring Schiro and completing the comeback in walk off fashion 8-7 and securing the sweep for the Saints.

Warren would finish the game 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs on the day, while Bremer would add three hits and a run of her own to lead the offense for the Saints.

CSS (17-10, 11-0 UMAC) will be back at home this weekend beginning with Crown College on Friday at 3 p.m. Catch all the exciting Saints softball action live at Saints Sports Net.
