WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (csssaints.com) – For the third consecutive day, the St. Scholastica softball team split its two contests at the Rebel Spring Games, defeating Muskingum University (Ohio) 6-2, but falling to Wheaton College (Mass.) 5-3.

CSS 6, Muskingum 2

The Saints scored in each of the first three innings on their way to a 6-2 victory over Muskingum to open action on Sunday.

Everything started after two outs for the Saints in the bottom of the first. A walk and single was followed by a RBI single by Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

It was more two-out action in the second as Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) singled in Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) and Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) also scored after an error by the Muskies to make it 3-0 after two innings.

CSS added two more runs in the third when Carley Moisio (Hoyt Lakes, Minn./Mesabi East HS) scored on a wild pitch and Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) crossed the plate on a Jazdzewski single to extend the lead to 5-0.

After Muskingum scored two runs in the top of the sixth, the Saints got one run back in the bottom frame on a Warren RBI single to plate Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS). Mizera retired the side in order in the seventh to give the Saints a 6-2 victory.

Mizera struck out four and scattered five hits in the complete game victory. Warren was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Marjaana Dailey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), Mizera and Jazdewski also each had two hits.

Wheaton (Mass.) 5, CSS 3

Wheaton College scored four runs between the fourth and fifth innings to defeat the Saints 5-3.

The Lyons got their first run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly. CSS answered in the top of the second when Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) scored on a Lyon error to tie it up at 1-1.

Wheaton got the offense going in the bottom of the fourth. The Lyons started the inning with single, triple, double, single and a walk with three runs coming across during that span. The Lyons added another run in the fifth inning to make it 5-1.

The Saints chipped into the lead in the sixth. Dailey hit a RBI double, plating Cayla Fogle (Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS). Logergren made it 5-3 on a Carley Henning (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) groundout, but a runner would be stranded at third. Schiro would hit a double in the seventh, but that was it as the Saints fell 5-3.

Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) picked up the loss for the Saints. Warren had a pair of hits to lead the CSS offense.

The Saints (3-5) will have a day off tomorrow before getting back to action on Tuesday when it again faces Muskingum at 10 a.m. (ET) and Marietta College (Ohio) at 12:15 p.m. (ET).
