Saints Sweep Rams in Saturday Doubleheader

Notables:
-The Saints outscored NCU 44-2 over the three-game weekend series.
-The Rams were charged with 13 errors between the two games, seven in the first game and six in the second game.
-Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) went 4-for-5 with five RBI's at the plate in the second game for CSS.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team took both games of its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader against North Central University on Saturday, winning 11-0 in the first game and 18-2 in the second game, to complete a weekend sweep of the Rams.
 
Game 1: CSS 11, North Central 0
 
Josh Brodersen (Vulcan, Mich./Norway HS ) took the mound for St. Scholastica in the first game. Brodersen threw four scoreless innings while allowing five hits with two strikeouts. Seth Anderson (Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS ) pitched the final three frames for CSS, holding the Rams hitless, to preserve the shutout.
 
The Saints jumped out to an early lead offensively scoring five runs in the first two innings. St. Scholastica was held off the scoreboard in the third inning but went on to score two runs in the fourth to grow the lead to 7-0 and then added four more runs in the fifth.
 
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS), hitting leadoff and playing centerfield for CSS, went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI's. Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) and Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) each collected two hits and two RBI's for the Saints.
 
David Babcock went the distance for NCU, pitching all seven innings, while giving up 11 hits and three earned runs. Babcock also finished with five strikeouts.
 
In total St. Scholastica outhit North Central 11-to-5 but the real difference was the seven fielding errors committed by the Rams in the game.
 
Game 2: CSS 18, North Central 2
 
The Saints bats stayed hot in the second game of the doubleheader that got started with CSS scoring 10 of their 18 total runs in the first inning.
 
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) led the way for CSS going 4-for-5 with a double and 5 RBI's. Seth Anderson (Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS ) went 3-for-4 at the plate scoring four runs and driving in two and Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) added three RBI's from the leadoff spot going 1-for-4 with a single for the Saints.
 
St. Scholastica also got another quality pitching performance with Joe Gonrowski (Elk River, Minn./Elk River HS ), who started the game, striking out seven over four innings while allowing just one earned run and two hits. Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS ) pitched two innings for St. Scholastica giving up one run on two hits with a strikeout. Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) pitched a 1-2-3 final inning for the Saints striking out two.
 
Taylor Madrinich started the game for North Central but only completed an inning after giving up 10 runs in the first, six of them earned, and also walking five. Eli Odle got the Rams through the next five innings giving up 10 hits and six runs, four of them earned, while walking one. Jordan Fair pitched the last inning for NCU giving up two hits and two unearned runs.
 
The Rams struggled again on the defensive side committing six errors.
 
The Saints improve to 10-3 on the year with the victories and a perfect 3-0 in UMAC play.
 
CSS heads to La Crosse, Wisconsin on Sunday to take on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 1 p.m.
