FORT PIERCE, Fla. (csssaints.com) – La Roche College (Pa.) scored 10 unanswered runs to get past the St. Scholastica baseball team 12-7 on Thursday and take two of the three games this week.

With the Redhawks sending their top pitcher to the mound, the Saints got up early in the top of the first when Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) hit a two-run home run over the left field wall.

It remained 2-0 CSS until the bottom of the third when a pair of St. Scholastica errors led to two La Roche unearned runs to tie the game at 2-2. However, the Saints responded by plating five runs in the fourth.

Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) brought in Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) to start the scoring. Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) followed with a RBI single to bring in Bernsdorf. Later in the inning, Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) drew a bases loaded walk and Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) drove in two runs with a single as the Saints led 7-2.

The Redhawks answered with a three-run home run and a RBI single in the bottom frame to make it 7-6 CSS. La Roche added another four-run inning in the sixth. Of the four runs, a CSS error made three of those runs unearned as the Redhawks took their first lead at 10-7.

La Roche (6-2) added to its lead in the eighth by scoring two runs after two quick outs in the inning thanks to a walk and back-to-back doubles. The Saints mustered only two hits after the fifth inning as it fell 12-7.

Jake Turner (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) picked up the loss in relief, going 3.1 innings, striking out two and allowing only one earned run. Jacob Dzubay (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS (Butler) ) had the start for the Saints and went 3.2 innings, striking out two. Eight of the starting nine had hits for CSS.

The Saints (4-2) continue action tomorrow in Fort Pierce when they take on Penn State-Behrend for the second time this week. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) and can be heard live on Saints Sports Net.
