A Late Falcons Goal Sinks Saints

Notables:
-CUW scored two power play goals in in the second period from Samantha Reiter and Alexis Machuga.
-Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) added two assists in the game for CSS.
-St. Scholastica outshot the Falcons 37-to-27 in the game.

MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's hockey, winless in its past three entering the game, lost 3-2 to Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night.
 
The two sides played a scoreless first period despite registering a combined 19 shots in the period, CSS with a 12-to-7 edge, and each team receiving two chances on the power play.
 
Both teams would find the back of the net in an open-ended second period that saw each team tally two goals.
 
The Saints were staked to an early 1-0 lead in the second after converting a power play opportunity under a minute into the period. Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) scored the goal for CSS with assists from Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)).
 
The Falcons would answer back with a power play goal of their own at 5:14 of the second. Samantha Reiter was the goal scorer with Chelsea Regan and Elizabeth Otto adding assists.
 
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) would break the 1-1 deadlock at 6:39 of the period from Kelly Ahlgren (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) and Waidacher recorded her second assist of the game.
 
CUW scored their second power play goal of the game at 11:17 to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third period. Alexis Machuga got the goal form Brittney Sticha and Emily Heckendorf.
 
The Falcons scored just over five minutes into the third period to take a 3-2 lead. Chelsea Regan got the goal from Alex Machuga and Veronika Metanova. CUW held their one-goal advantage for the remainder of the game to seal the victory even though they were outshot 11-to-8 in the period.
 
The Saints threw a lot of pucks at the net in the game, totaling 37 shots while allowing just 27, but could not find the tying goal in the third period.
 
Bridget Slater made 35 saves on the night for Concordia University Wisconsin. Kristen Hunt (Winnipeg, Manitoba/West Kildonan) recorded 24 saves for CSS.
 
St. Scholastica heads to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin on Saturday to take on Marian College with the game starting at 7 p.m.
