HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's hockey defeated Finlandia University by a final score of 4-0 on a night where no goals were scored in the first period.
 
The first period saw very few scoring chances in total with very good defense being played especially by the Saints. They managed to take 11 shots to just four by Finlandia as the first period ended with no goals on the board at 0-0.
 
CSS got the goal scoring started as Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) netted one past Finlandia goalie Taylor Gustafson with the assist by Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) to make the score 1-0 with 9:55 to go in the second period.
 
Less than three minutes later Sami Anderson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) made it 2-0 scoring with 7:01 to go in the period. The assists went to Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) and Lindsey Wright (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS (Team Alaska U19)) as CSS ended the second period up 2-0.
 
The Saints would add a power play goal roughly 13 minutes into the third period when Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) took a pass from Hanowski and put it past Gustafson to make the score 3-0 with 7:15 left in the game. Guzzo was also credited with an assist.
 
CSS would add one more goal by Anja Kadijevic (Zagreb, Croatia/General HS (Lindenwood)) with 4:18 to go in the game with assists by Guzzo and Madison Smith (Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy (Spruce Grove Saints)) to set the final score at 4-0 in favor of CSS
 
Guzzo would finish the night with three points on the night assisting on three of St. Scholastica's four goals in the game.
 
CSS (10-10-3, 8-6-3 NCHA) will next be in action when they travel across the harbor to Superior, Wisconsin to take on UW-Superior on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
