FOND DU LAC, Wis. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's hockey was defeated 6-5 in overtime by Marian University in a shootout between the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rivals.
The Sabres would take the first lead of the game just over two minutes into the first period. Carson Johnstone scored for Marian with Scott Milnthorp getting the lone assist.
Each team registered nine shots apiece in the first.
After being held off the scoreboard in the first period, the Saints exploded for four goals in the second.
Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) tied the score at 1-1 from
Kyle Beaulieu (White Rock, British Columbia/Earl Marriott (St. Norbert)) at 1:03 of the second.
The Sabres would regain the advantage 40 seconds later with a goal from RJay Berra but the lead wouldn't last long.

Marian came storming back in the third period with a three-goal outburst. Hunter Stewart got the rally started for the Sabres with a power-play goal at 9:13 to make it 4-3.
Then at 13:47 Ben Morgan tied the game at 4-4 with a short-handed goal from Brian Berger and Stewart.
St. Scholastica would get a power play goal from
Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) just a few minutes later to take the lead once again 5-4. Bruce and Hills were credited with assists.
Time appeared to running out for the Sabres down a goal with under five minutes remaining in the final period, but a Saints penalty with 1:11 left in regulation gave Marian a final power play chance.
The Sabres would take advantage of the opportunity with Mark Whiteley getting the special teams goal at 19:08 to send the game to overtime. Stewart added his second assist of the game on the goal.
Just 2:27 into overtime the Sabres completed the comeback with Brian Berger scoring from Milnthorp and Stewart.
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 25 saves for St. Scholastica.
