SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Superior scored the first two goals and made it hold up defeating the St. Scholastica women's hockey team 2-1 in the only Bridge Battle this season on Tuesday at Wessman Arena.

UWS Advantage in the First
The Yellowjackets out-shot the Saints 11-4 in the opening period and recorded the first goal of the game when Lynne Larson took advantage of an odd-man rush to put in the rebound with 4:35 left in the first period.

Even in the Second Period
UWS extended its lead to 2-0 eight minutes into the second period on a Leah Elledge goal. With less than six minutes to go in the period, the Saints cut the lead in half with a Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) goal off a rebound on the power-play to make it 2-1. Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) were credited with the assists. For Lalikova, it was her first collegiate goal.

Late Power-Play
After it failed to convert on the power-play earlier in the third period, St. Scholastica would get another chance late in the game when Superior was called for a major penalty with 1:06 remaining. With the goalie pulled, the Saints had a 6-on-4 advantage, but would only get one shot on net in the final minute as the Yellowjackets hung on for the 2-1 victory.

Goaltending
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 28 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Natasha Singer had 22 saves to earn the win for the 'jackets.

Up Next
The Saints (4-4-0) will wrap up play in the first half of the season tomorrow night when they travel to face Marian University (Wis.) for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NHCA) matchup. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
