LAKE FOREST, Ill. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was out-scored 4-1 in the final two periods as it fell to No. 10 Lake Forest College (Ill.) 5-2 on Saturday.
First PeriodThere were two total goals scored in the first period. CSS grabbed an early lead 7:57 into the game when
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) beat the Lake Forest goaltender to take a 1-0 lead.
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) got credited for the assist on the goal.
Unfortunately for CSS, Lake Forest would tie the game less than five minutes later when they put a shot into the CSS net to tie the game at 1-1 with 7:55 remaining in the first.
Second PeriodLake Forest would score the only two goals of the second period. The first goal was scored just 6:19 into the period, and the second one was scored with just over four minutes left. When the horn sounded to end the period, the scoreboard read Lake Forest 3 CSS 1.
Third PeriodCSS scored a quick goal to bring the deficit to just one. Guzzo scored her second goal of the game with assists by
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)), and with 13:55 left to play CSS trailed 3-2.
After the Guzzo goal, Lake Forest would add two late insurance goals, including a short-handed goal with one minute to play to take game one of the weekend series by a final score of 5-2.
CSS goaltender
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) made a total of 37 saves on the day, while Abby Cooper made 17 saves for the Foresters.
