RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell 72-50 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday.
 
Big Run to Close First Quarter
The start would be tight with neither team leading by more than four points through the first six minutes. The Saints led 17-15 following a Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) layup with four minutes to go. Unfortunately, that was the final points of the quarter for CSS as the Falcons closed on a 10-0 run to take a 25-17 lead.
 
Pulling Away
St. Scholastica was held to seven points in the second quarter and trailed 36-23 at halftime. CSS did not get within single digits in the second half. The Falcons out-scored the Saints 36-27 in the second half to win 72-50.
 
Top CSS Performers
VanKempen led the Saints with 11 points off then bench. Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) and Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) each added nine points. Mariah Pearson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) had a team-high six rebounds. The Saints shot 37 percent from the floor and was 50 percent from the free throw line (13-of-26).
 
Top UWRF Performers
UW-Superior transfer Brynn Liljander led all scorers with 17 points. Hannah Pignato had 15 points off the bench. The Falcons shot 45 percent from the field.

The Saints (1-4) will be back in action tomorrow and will be back at home when they host Concordia College-Moorhead at the Reif Gymnasium. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
