Hovland Runs Her Way into NCAA Championships

PELLA, Iowa (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica sophomore Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) punched her ticket to next week's NCAA Division III Championships by placing sixth overall on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships, hosted by Central College (Iowa). The Saints as a team placed 12th out of 30 teams.

Top Performances
Coming off her Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) individual championship two weeks ago, Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) ran a personal-best time of 22:20.5 to finish sixth overall and guarantee herself an entry into next weekend's NCAA Division III Championships. She would become the youngest CSS cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Championships.
 
Andrea Mogren (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) wrapped up her cross country career by finishing 29th overall with a time of 23:18.7. By placing in the top 35 both Hovland and Mogren earn all-region accolades. For Mogren, it is the second time she has earned all-region laurels.
 
Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) came across 76th overall, posting a time of 24:22.3. Anna Nelson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) crossed the finish line in 104th with a time of 25:00.3. The final Saint to score was Kali Erickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) in 131st with a time of 25:34.2.
 
Molly McCusker (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) was 142nd and Heidi Carlson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) was 165th. McCusker's time was 25:47.3 and Carlson's time was 26:34.9
 
Who's In
By placing in the top two, the University of St. Thomas and Carleton College both gain automatic team entries into next week's NCAA Division III Championships. St. Olaf College, Loras College (Iowa) and Luther College (Iowa) will also be considered for at-large berths. Hovland will be one of seven individual qualifiers from the region

The announcement of the field for next week's NCAA Division III Championships in Winneconne, Wisconsin will take place Sunday afternoon on NCAA.com.
