DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team used two power play goals to tie the Concoridia University Wisconsin Falcons 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The Saints initiated the scoring with a power play goal from freshman
Zahn Thompson (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley HS) about five minutes into the game. She was assisted by her teammates
Kelly Ahlgren (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) and
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS). A questionable goal from Falcon Lexi Holman was scored shortly after the Saints' first goal. The puck appeared to hit off the post, but it was ruled a goal. The rest of the period was quiet for both teams leaving the score 1-1.
The Saints were the only ones to score in the second period.
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored another power play goal to make the score 2-1 just over seven minutes into the second part of play. Assisting her was
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)).
In the third, the Falcons evened the score with an unassisted goal from Baylee Darling about midway through the period. Darling's goal forced overtime with the Saints but neither team was able to net another goal as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
St. Scholastica's
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 19 saves, while Concordia's Andrea Mizanskey had 21 saves.
The Falcons' record becomes 7-8-3 overall and 3-6-2 in conference play, while the Saints' record hangs on at 8-8-2 overall and 6-4-2 in conference play.
