DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated Concordia University Wisconsin by a score of 3-2 on three third period goals at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The game started out very evenly with no goals scored in the first period despite both teams accumulating 10 shots apiece in the period.

The second period was very much like the first with both teams playing back and forth hockey with no team being able to catch a break. It was not until the 16:48 mark in the period that Concordia-Wisconsin broke the scoreless tie when Brittany Sticha found the back of the net to put CUW on top 1-0.

The 1-0 lead for CUW would last into the third period until St. Scholastica scored with 13:48 to go in the game. Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) beat Concordia goaltender Andrea Mizanskey to tie the game up at 1-1 with assists on the goal being awarded to Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS).

CSS would then go on top about five minutes later when Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) scored a power play goal 11:11 into the third to set the score at CSS 2 CUW 1. This time Waidacher got the assist on the goal while Johnston tallied her second helper of the game as well.

CUW would answer the Guzzo goal with their second of the game to tie it up at 2-2 just 32 seconds after CSS took the lead. Hannah Zobel notched the goal at the 11:43 mark and with 8:17 to go in the game the score was tied at 2-2.

The score would remain tied 2-2 for most of the rest of the game. It was not until there was just 1:49 left that Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) took a pass from Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) and found the back of the net for the game winning goal and the Saints third of the period to bring the Saints' lead to 3-2 .  Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) also got credited for an assist on the goal.

Concordia pulled their goalie with 1:38 to go, but managed just one shot that was saved by Saints goalie Kristen Hunt (Winnipeg, Manitoba/West Kildonan) as CSS pulled out a 3-2 nail-biting victory over Concordia-Wisconsin.

Hunt finished the game with 21 saves for the Saints while Mizanskey totaled 33 saves in net for CUW.
