PREVIEW: Men's Hockey Hosts Lawrence this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will look to end a four-game winless streak this weekend when it hosts Lawrence University (Wis.) at Mars Lakeview Arena for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series.

The Saints are coming off a physical, hard-fought series with No. 8 Adrian College (Mich.) last weekend which saw an entertaining 3-3 tie on Friday night and a 3-0 Adrian victory on Saturday … CSS had a season-high 49 penalty minutes between the two games last weekend .. Saturday's home loss also snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak at Mars Lakeview.
 
Military Appreciation Night: The Saints will have Military Appreciation Night on Friday … For the second straight year, CSS will wear special jerseys to commemorate the event. The jerseys will then be auctioned off after the game.
 
Where They Stand: The Saints are sitting in fourth place in the conference standings, one point ahead of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and this week's opponent, Lawrence … St. Norbert College and Adrian are tied at the top with 19 points and Lake Forest College (Ill.) is third with 15 points … Four weekends remain in the regular season.
 
Special Teams Determine Success: The Saints are right in the middle of the conference with a zero special teams net … The top three teams in the conference-St. Norbert, Adrian and Lake Forest are 1,2,3 respectively in that category.
 
Don't Let Off the Gas: CSS has allowed a league-low nine goals in the opening period this season … Only the bottom five teams in the league have allowed more goals in the second and third periods than the Saints (34).
 
Between the Pipes: Junior goaltender Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) is fourth in the conference in goals-against-average (2.13) and save percentage (.925) … He has seen his save percentage climb from .911 to .925 in his last three games.
 
Light the Lamp: The Saints have been shut out three times this season, which is the most since the 2007-08 season.
