DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholatica women's basketball team defeated North Central University by a final score of 80-52 behind 14 points from Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and 13 points from Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS).

CSS built up an early first half lead right out of the gate and maintained a single digit lead for the first 11 minutes of the game.

It was not until Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) sunk a 3-point shot with 9:01 left in the half that the Saints lead reached double digits. That 3-pointer was a part of a 19-6 run which propelled the Saints to a 19 point lead at 40-21 with 2:48 to go in the half.

The first half would close out with the Saints on top 43-25. CSS was led in the half by Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS)'s nine points on 3-of-4 shooting.

The Saints would maintain their double digit lead in the second half not allowing North Central any closer than 15 points on two occasions.

The largest lead for the Saints was not achieved until there was just 1:01 to go in the game when Jenna Langer (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) sunk a jumper to make lead 28. That was also the last bucket of the game as CSS downed the Rams by a score of 80-52.

Langer would finish the game with seven points and six boards. The Saints outrebounded the Rams 42-21 and outshot North Central 66-41.

Jamie High had a double-double for North Central with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

CSS (5-9 2-1 UMAC) will be in action next Friday as they begin a four game road stretch by traveling to St. Bonifacius, Minnesota to take on Crown College.
