Saints Fall to Yellowjackets 2-1

Notables:
-Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored a first period power-play goal for her NCHA leading 16th goal of the season.
-Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) made 28 saves for St. Scholastica in a losing effort.
-Leah Elledge scored the game-winning goal for UWS at the 13:30 mark of the second period.

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's hockey was defeated 2-1 by cross-state rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
 
St. Scholastica opened its game against UWS with a power play goal from Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)), her Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) leading 16th goal of the season, 2:59 into the first period from Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) and Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS).
 
Almost exactly three minutes later the Yellowjackets would draw level at 1-1 with Kiara De Kezel finding the back of the net. Dani Schultz and Emily Heid were credited with assists.
 
UWS would take a 2-1 lead at the 13:30 mark of the second period with an unassisted goal from Leah Elledge.
 
The Yellowjackets were unable to convert on a late power play opportunity in the second but entered the third period with a 25-to-7 advantage in shots on goal.
 
St. Scholastica got a great chance to tie up the game early in the third period with a power play opportunity but could not convert. CSS wouldn't give up another goal in the game, as Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) put forth an incredible effort making 28 saves, but could not find the tying goal.
 
Kim Kobar stopped 13-of-14 shots for Wisconsin-Superior to earn her seventh win this season.
 
With the loss St. Scholastica's overall record drops to 7-6-1 placing them third in the NCHA standings with 11 points.

Next up the Saints take on No.7 University of Wisconsin-River Falls at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday at 4 p.m. to kickoff a two-game series.
