DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team had to settle for a series split with Saint Anselm College (N.H.) after falling to the Hawks 2-1 on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena.

It didn't take long for the Hawks (8-4-1) to get on the scoreboard as Tiffany Herron scored an unassisted goal three minutes and eight seconds into the contest. That would be the score after one period of play with Saint Anselm holding an 11-5 advantage in shots.

The Saints had to kill off a power-play to begin the second and not only accomplished that, but also found the net shorthanded as Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored for the third straight game to tie it at 1-1. Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)) was credited with the assist.

St. Scholastica outshot the Hawks 15-3 in the second period and also had a five minute power-play in the period, but could not add another as the score remained tied going into the third period.

Waidacher had another chance at the start of the third period on a breakaway, but would strike the pipe. Then midway through the period, the Hawks went on the power-play and would capitalize on a Sarah Geisinger goal with less than 10 minutes to go.

The Saints would have a power-play in the final minute with the goalie pulled, but could not get a shot off as the Hawks hung for the 2-1 victory.

Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 20 saves in the loss for the Saints. Lindsey Brown had 25 saves to earn the win for Saint Anselm.

The Saints (7-5-1) continue their home stand Tuesday night when they take on Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at Mars Lakeview Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
